Studio Shots

I have been working all day at setting up my photo studio. really organizing it and setting up new lighting I got the other day, getting ready to do some portrait work. I am really happy with it, and this photo comes straight off the camera, no photoshopping at all. the light is soft and even. I love it.
Bella was a stellar subject and was most willing to sit for multiple (ok, 75 or so) shots while I tweaked the lights and settings... she sat, laid down and snoozed away like a sweet little lamb. She has been a most welcome addition to our little family and we have had a splendid time running our fool heads off. (though I must say, my rusty highland dancer muscles are protesting loudly...must get back dancing SOON) She has a love for rolling in cow poop... I'd prefer that she didn't do that (ick) she's starting to realize that means there will be a bath afterward... that doesn't deter her one bit...

Bella

This is Bella. She is a 2 year old Jack Russell mix. She is the newest addition to our family. She is adorable, fun and full of energy! So far her favorite place to be is parked infront of the sliding glass door - where she can watch (and growl at) the chickadees eating seeds. After a fun day at the farm yesterday (and a hosing off after a roll in a cow patty) she had her first bath. She smells good to me, but she probably thinks she smelt better with the cow poo...

Christmas Lights and Bella

We are getting a dog.
Not just any dog. we are lucky enough to be chosen to be the new home for the cutest 2 year old Jack Russell cross named Bella. We are picking her up tomorrow and I am looking forward to all that having a dog brings. it's been 7 years since my little dog Willy passed away. It will be fun to have a furry face looking at me again. I am sure she is going to have a grand time running at the farm with the 'boys' and exploring her new environment (being new to the area myself, I'm looking forward to exploring it too)
Today we got the Christmas lights up on the outside...They look really cute! The wind is really blowing now, so it will be a test for the little plastic clips holding them on! I have just about got the (photo) studio set up. I will be doing some work on my website with regards to Portrait pricing etc. I must also start my christmas baking!! that is something I am looking forward to tonight! I must not eat all the baked goodies - ok, got it

Gallery Openings and Artist Statements

I am sitting here writing my artist statement. I will be submitting my work to a gallery for consideration and need to provide one. It's been an interesting exercise. Trying to pinpoint the reasons behind my work. I've never really thought about the 'whys or the hows' I've only just 'done' it. I enjoy the entire process of the work I have been doing, I am always thinking of the picture I am working on and the next one I want to take... photography is a 'chance' type of art...yes, you can set up shots and lighting...but the only time I want to do that is when it's too dark to go out and 'play' I like natural light over studio light...saying that, I have a hundred different ideas that I want to try in the studio in my head right now. Before I can get to that, I must make myself finish my 'artist statement', then I can start the series of christmas photographs that I am wanting to do.
Tonight is my first Gallery opening...I have no idea what to expect or what to think or say. I hope this goes well...it's been a list of firsts for me, my first juried exhibit, my first time submitting any of my work for a gallery type setting, my first time being part of a mixed media show. I must remind myself that this is fun, and I like it, and this is what I wanted...right? yes, right. I have had sales of my work, it's strange and satisfying to think that my photographs are in private collections in Canada and the USA.
