I have been quite busy meeting couples and booking upcoming weddings, so it was quite a nice treat to hop in the truck, put on the Christmas cd I rec'd on friday - from my mum - thank you :) - and go out and shoot. another favorite from the day can be seen here in my flickr stream.
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and the happiest of new years too :)

Weddings - 2008 - Now booking

As I prepare for the Christmas season of 2007, I am also preparing for the Wedding 'season' of 2008 - taking bookings, meeting soon-to-be brides. Getting my website up and going has been very exciting. I am constantly adding to it and coming up with new ideas to put on there. I have recently made it possible to: book and make payments for wedding events (please, be sure the date you want is available before making any payments!) I have also been busy creating some new business cards, I just love this dancing couple... I also plan to include one of these as a 'thank you' note for my couples.

Studio Shots

I have been working all day at setting up my photo studio. really organizing it and setting up new lighting I got the other day, getting ready to do some portrait work. I am really happy with it, and this photo comes straight off the camera, no photoshopping at all. the light is soft and even. I love it.
Bella was a stellar subject and was most willing to sit for multiple (ok, 75 or so) shots while I tweaked the lights and settings... she sat, laid down and snoozed away like a sweet little lamb. She has been a most welcome addition to our little family and we have had a splendid time running our fool heads off. (though I must say, my rusty highland dancer muscles are protesting loudly...must get back dancing SOON) She has a love for rolling in cow poop... I'd prefer that she didn't do that (ick) she's starting to realize that means there will be a bath afterward... that doesn't deter her one bit...

After spending several days setting it up. my website is just about done. Along with my Fine Art & Viewfinder photographs. I also offer Wedding and Portrait photography. To celebrate the launch of my new site, I am offering a limited time special Wedding Package. I hope you take the time to visit, and let me know what you think.

This is Bella. She is a 2 year old Jack Russell mix. She is the newest addition to our family. She is adorable, fun and full of energy! So far her favorite place to be is parked infront of the sliding glass door - where she can watch (and growl at) the chickadees eating seeds. After a fun day at the farm yesterday (and a hosing off after a roll in a cow patty) she had her first bath. She smells good to me, but she probably thinks she smelt better with the cow poo...

Christmas Lights and Bella

We are getting a dog.
Not just any dog. we are lucky enough to be chosen to be the new home for the cutest 2 year old Jack Russell cross named Bella. We are picking her up tomorrow and I am looking forward to all that having a dog brings. it's been 7 years since my little dog Willy passed away. It will be fun to have a furry face looking at me again. I am sure she is going to have a grand time running at the farm with the 'boys' and exploring her new environment (being new to the area myself, I'm looking forward to exploring it too)
Today we got the Christmas lights up on the outside...They look really cute! The wind is really blowing now, so it will be a test for the little plastic clips holding them on! I have just about got the (photo) studio set up. I will be doing some work on my website with regards to Portrait pricing etc. I must also start my christmas baking!! that is something I am looking forward to tonight! I must not eat all the baked goodies - ok, got it

Gallery Openings and Artist Statements

I am sitting here writing my artist statement. I will be submitting my work to a gallery for consideration and need to provide one. It's been an interesting exercise. Trying to pinpoint the reasons behind my work. I've never really thought about the 'whys or the hows' I've only just 'done' it. I enjoy the entire process of the work I have been doing, I am always thinking of the picture I am working on and the next one I want to take... photography is a 'chance' type of art...yes, you can set up shots and lighting...but the only time I want to do that is when it's too dark to go out and 'play' I like natural light over studio light...saying that, I have a hundred different ideas that I want to try in the studio in my head right now. Before I can get to that, I must make myself finish my 'artist statement', then I can start the series of christmas photographs that I am wanting to do.
Tonight is my first Gallery opening...I have no idea what to expect or what to think or say. I hope this goes's been a list of firsts for me, my first juried exhibit, my first time submitting any of my work for a gallery type setting, my first time being part of a mixed media show. I must remind myself that this is fun, and I like it, and this is what I wanted...right? yes, right. I have had sales of my work, it's strange and satisfying to think that my photographs are in private collections in Canada and the USA.

Grazing Sheep - Limited Edition

I have, in the past, taken way too many photos of sheep. (I can hear you!) but never have they been as cute and sweet as these little fella's I met yesterday. I am in sheep heaven. with those little faces and cute ears and fluffy wooly bodies! adorable!
I have created a unique textured photograph that I am offering in my Etsy Shop as a limited edition print. It will be available in 2 sizes: 8"x8" and 4"x4" there will only 25 in each size printed of this textured version. I love it and will be hanging it in my house too :)

Today I took 12 of my (framed) photographs to Mr.Pickwicks (West Vancouver). I was selected to have my art shown in the restaurant this month. Very exciting for me, this is my first solo show (ok, my first show of any kind actually) Now, if I could just sell some!
I haven't had much time for taking new photos, but have been looking through some (fairly) recent ones... I love this cute teapot.

Soft Toys and Craft Night

Yes. I do realize how hideous the cover of this book is.
It's from 1973 what else can I say? I found it today at the local 2nd hand store. I went to the book section hoping I would find a book with a 'baby doll' pattern in it for my baby niece... what I found was this book. it has doll patterns and so much more. I cannot wait to make some of these... I think I am going to make one tonight (it's only 11pm!!)
I had a 'craft night' for the first time since May. it went really good, my fella's cousin and I had a great time...since what I made was a Christmas pressie, I can't really say too much here. but a good time was had by all. I cannot wait until Thursday when I am going to start decorating for Christmas!

One Room School house

One Room School house

Today is a beautiful, crisp, sunny fall day.
What am I doing to enjoy the day? Counting water/beer/juice bottles to return. so far the water bottles out number the beer ones :)

I dropped off the cute "positivley petite" photographs yesterday. I am quite happy with how they looked. I cut the mats for them and I feel that they turned out good.

since I am now done preparing for the upcoming exhibit I got to have a look at some of my photographs taken back home a few weeks ago.
I loved this sweet little school house... hasn't had students since 1951. why? because it's on a remote Island that is down to it's last 2 full time residents.

Positivley Petite

After submitting my portfolio to be juried (for the first time I might add...) I have been accepted for an upcoming exhibit at Place des Arts in Coquitlam BC. It runs from Nov 8 - Dec 21 with a 'wine and cheese' reception on the opening night from 7:30 - 9:30pm.
After much running around last week, the photographs are all framed and ready.
I am looking forward to it. However I have no idea what to expect at all.

The Comet and the Great Lake Swimmers

I am currently (yes still) going through my photos. Looking for ones that I deem 'portfolio worthy' I am loving this comet shot for sure.
While I puruse(sp?) my photos, I am listening to 'Your Rocky Spine' by The Great Lake Swimmers...awesome tune. Folky Rock with touch of what seems to be bluegrass roots...or so the banjo/mandolin would imply. They're offering free - 5 tunes here
I am still bent about my Flickr account...(I know..dead horse, still kicking it..) I can still upload photos to my old account...for all the good it'll do me...

Laura's Launderette

I want Laura to do my laundry.
I hung my freshly washed clothes on the line today....I didn't know this was the day they were gonna spread...pooh.
so, they're a mix of fresh air and pooh.

starting over

it feels really strange to be doing this.... photos that are similar to my 'other' id..
i feel sad, but what can I do? I feel like I've locked my keys in the car and I have no spare and no cell reception and I'm on a road with no houses.

flickr might love me, but yahoo sure doesn't.

Fresh Cut Flowers - $4

Well, I'm gonna need them.

It would appear that someone has hacked into my flickr and yahoo account and deactivated it. I am trying to get it back, but it's annoying as hell.

I should be in bed...really. it's LATE!
But here I am. enjoying the first fire of the fall.... taking self portraits. anything 'cute' I have to put on is in the bedroom...and my fella is asleep, so instead of my pj's for my self portraits...I have scrounged up some blue shorts, pink shirt and an apron...I think I've become sleep deprived and have lost my good(?) judgement....

Misty Morning

It was quite misty this morning. I spent a while out back taking photos of mist filled cob webs.
They are blackberries back there that I didn't know about.
and I inspected the cow corn back there too. (I think it's ready)
I left around 7:00 to take some more photos around the area.
This is one of my favorites of the day.

They are in my fella's grandparent's backyard, and they have lovingly tended them for years I'm sure. it was overcast and rainy when I took these, and we were preparing to go down to The Point.
I have already printed these off and either plan to put them in my portfolio and/or in guest bathroom/darkroom.

a while back my sister and I did a craft was before crafting was cool (ie: I was surrounded by plastic canvas needle point, crochet acrylic pink baby sweaters (on matching crochet hangers) made from 1950's Beehive books, and knitted toilet paper covers...I made $70 (mostly from family) sadly my sister is gone now, so it's quite a nice memory to have.
I don't know where I got the nerve (or the idea...but...) I was selling hot chocolate and mug sets...not just any mugs....thrifted mugs from the goodwill! LOL..again...that was before thrifted stuff was cool... lol. Gilligan's Island was in re-runs and I just kept thinking that I wanted the mugs to look like coconuts... I guess we should've known better than to do a 'crap fair' - as we put it - at the same place where the social bingo is held....there's another memory! The prize table just got sadder and sadder.... there was 'Christmas in july' prizes and Big cans of Apple Juice and Kraft Dinner... but we all went anyway! lol.

Cornflower Cottage

This cute fella was found at Cornflower Cottage Antiques (in Chilliwack) and this photo will make a great gift for one of the "moms to be" that I know...I hate parting with the little guy, and before I do, I'll be sure to make a pattern from him. Also, my photo notecards can now be found at this lovely antique store.
a print of this photo can be found in my shop.
It's actually been sunny here for the last 4 days (in an actual row!) and it finally feels like summer...I met 2 of the neighbors last night. out at the mail box...after someone made a bon fire out of the 3 of them on the weekend... crazy. then yesterday, someone dumped scrap wood on the lawn...(starting to wonder what kind of place my fella made me move to!)

Etsy Treasury & Trifted Linen

I had an opportunity at Etsy to create a treasury! so naturally I choose Viewfinder images! so, naturally I choose Viewfinder photos...all of these artists are amazing. each one is so unique, but tied together by the vintage black framing. swooooon! They are just terrific!

I had a good time yesterday at the local thrift store! All clothing was $1 a piece...I came away with several linen dresses...I was going to reuse them to make small toys and baby stuff...but I am sitting here in a freshly washed, clothesline dried I guess I am keeping two of them...the pretty sky blue one and the cute chocolate brown one! I also got a pair cords (to be cut up for crafts) a pristine white queen duvet cover - which I will embroider - and two yellow stripe sham covers...all looked very delightful on my clothesline...!

Notecards & Thrifted Goods

Yesterday was quite busy.
I'm quite happy to annouce that my TtV photo notecards are now available at the 'Yarrow County Gifts and Baskets' - a BIG Thanks to them! there you will find 15 assorted notecards to choose from! as well, you will find some of my photography on display throughout the store!

It's been tough keeping up with demand, it's very exciting and well worth the challenge!!
I have put a few up in my Etsy shop as well..
in other news....I had 2 fun days of thrifting!!

I spent about $15. that got me:
a fun red & white umbrella, an old enamel drawer from a fridge - it has "Meat-Chilled" on the front (my poor fella! what he has to put up with!) it'll be great for yarn/fabric storage...and it'll look cute too! - a sham cover, a shot glass (every girl needs one) a coffee cannister, 2 fireking pie plates, 2 cute aprons (photos to follow of them I'm sure!) a nut cracker, a picture frame, a cute old metal strainer (not visible in photo!) and a mat cutter! The mat cutter was the most expensive item at $9. I don't normally spend that much at the thrift stores, but I've been looking at mat cutters for a while now...and $9 for a quality vintage mat cutter was a good price!

Photo Life Magazine

well, today I found out that a photo I submitted to Photo Life Magazine's Showtime contest was selected for publication in the Sept 2007 issue. it's actually not yet on news stands, but is out to subscribers (which is how I found out....from a subscriber, who - thankfully - posted about it on Flickr)
Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about it. and I'm itching to see what it looks like in a magazine!

sweet, sweet tulips

I've been feeling a bit of the January blues.
so, today I stopped by the local garden centre to try and bring myself up. though it was mighty empty, I bought a pot of $1.99 blooming tulips, as soon as i was through the checkout, i plunked em down at the front and dug my xti and duaflex out, and shot some pic's they are for sure, my favourite of the day. the staff and other customers (all two of them) didn't even bat an eye, thought I am sure they must've thought I was nuts! lol.

Life thru my viewfinder

it's changed my whole way of looking at photography. I have always loved photography & and taking photos. but this, these little, retro, cameras that are a window to the past have changed not what I photograph, but rather, what I wasn't. I've always been a 'details' photographer - a dancer's kilt and feet, not just the whole dancer - but this has made me look again at things that are decepitively simplistic.
I guess I just feel like I've discovered photography (again) for the first time.
